Text 19 Mar World With[out]

 Imagine…

     Imagine a world without

Backyards, swimming pools,

Automobiles, air conditioning

     Imagine a world without

Tennis shoes, bottled water,

Microwaves, grocery stores

     Imagine a world without

Playgrounds, plumbing,

Electricity, cable

     Imagine a world without

Laughter, dinner,

Homework, freedom

Oh, say, can you see-dom

Okay, our country’s not great

But you can still be happy or irate

You can still believe your following your fate

And still possibly meet your perfect mate

… even though you can’t marry if your not straight.

Still - close your eyes and with your mind create:

Having no home

Skin down to your bones

Caught in the throws

Of war and strife

Where a gun and a knife

Aren’t just weapons, but means of protection

And your body is just a piece for selection

A place where your money is up for collection

And there’s no such thing as a presidential election.

     Imagine parents who can’t parent

Because they can’t afford to pay rent

Or worse, children left parent-less

In a country who’s government couldn’t careless.

I’m speechless.

     Imagine a world without

Ice cream, XBox,

Spice Girls, pet rocks,

Airplanes, clean socks,

World news, digital clocks

Where emotional shocks

Don’t come from emotional blocks

With people trapped behind the emotional locks

Of a life so full of family and friends

That letting one’s self feel means the fun ends

… And there’s a world out there

Who’s emotional blocks

Have been unlocked

Because there world has been shocked

By hatred and violence

Whether it be war zones or city riots

So when your lover says, Be quiet!

In a rather harsh way

Over something rather stupid

After a rather harsh day

Remember its okay

And to your self say -

     Imagine a world without

Bathtubs, fast food,

Food, coffee,

Speaking softly

In whispers

“your lips I long to kiss dear”

On a beach somewhere

Where your safe from fear

With your loved one near

And its clear

When all this imagining doesn’t elicit one tear

How right I am to fear

How completely insincere

We are as we cheer

To living in a world with

But imagine a world without.
